COHORT 1 (2024 - 2025)
In 2024, 34 (19 women and 15 males) Cohort 1 Public Service Fellows were placed in 24 Ministries, Departments and Agencies with support from the Fellows Placement Committee. The decision to place them in all these MDAs was informed by their educational backgrounds, their professional experience and their career interests.

COHORT 2 (2025 - 2026)
In 2025, EPL Malawi welcomed its second cohort of 46 Public Service Fellows (32 women and 14 men), strategically placed across various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and districts. The placements were deliberately informed by each Fellow’s educational background, professional experience and career interests, ensuring meaningful contribution to host institutions while supporting individual leadership growth. This cohort represents a significant increase from the previous intake of 33 Fellows, reflecting EPL Malawi’s deliberate scale-up and continued investment in developing a stronger pipeline of ethical, competent and service-driven public sector leaders.

Alumni Network
The Emerging Public Leaders of Malawi marked a significant milestone following the successful graduation of the inaugural cohort of the Public Service Fellowship Programme. After completing their one-year fellowship journey, the fellows formally on 30 September 2025 followed by a graduation on 5 December 2025, signalling the end of the fellowship phase and their transition into the Emerging Public Leaders Alumni Network. This transition reflects EPL Malawi’s commitment to sustaining leadership development beyond the fellowship and ensuring that fellows remain actively engaged in public service reform.
As newly graduated fellows, EPL Malawi participants became part of a growing pan-African alumni community of over 500 young and mid-career public service leaders. This transition was further strengthened through EPL Malawi’s participation in the 2025 Emerging Public Leaders Alumni Network Global Gathering held from 24th to 25th April in Accra, Ghana. The meeting provided a valuable platform for the Malawi cohort to gain first-hand insights into alumni life, network governance, and how alumni chapters across Africa remain active, relevant, and impactful long after the fellowship ends.
The Accra engagement allowed EPL Malawi to benchmark its alumni aspirations against established chapters, while reinforcing the importance of structured leadership and sustained collaboration. Drawing from these lessons, and in line with the graduation of the fellows, EPL Malawi alumni took deliberate steps to formalize their alumni chapter to support coordination, accountability, and strategic engagement.
To lead this next phase, the alumni elected an executive committee to guide the network and serve as a link between the EPL Malawi country office and the broader Emerging Public Leaders Alumni Network. The elected leadership includes
- Eshanie Office – President
- James Gwanda – Vice President
- Mayamiko Kenamu – Treasurer.
- Mira German – Communications & Public Relations Officer.
- Fredrick Maluza – Secretary and
- Chikoko Banda – Organizer
With graduation completed and leadership established, EPL Malawi’s alumni network is now positioned to deepen peer learning, strengthen professional collaboration, and contribute meaningfully to ethical and effective public service in Malawi. As alumni, the former fellows remain part of a continent-wide movement dedicated to leadership, accountability, and long-term public sector impact.

A Few words from our Fellows
EPL has been a life-changing experience. The exposure I’m receiving through this fellowship, learning from inspiring leaders, enhancing my skills through hands-on training, and engaging in community projects has been invaluable. Being part of this network, focused on excellence and real impact in Malawi, has been incredibly rewarding.
The EPL fellowship has opened doors to meaningful initiatives like the Impact Series. This journey has equipped me with practical skills while allowing me to contribute to tangible outcomes. It’s fulfilling to be part of a programme that nurtures public service leaders to create lasting change in our communities.
